Congresswoman Pou Opposes Republican Attempt to Overturn Waiver
Urges governor to consider delay
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Nellie Pou (D-NJ-09) today issued a statement on an attempt by House Republicans to block a waiver to an Environmental Protection Agency rule on vehicle pollution.
“The federal Government Accountability Office and the U.S. Senate Parliamentarian both agree that waivers cannot be revoked by the Congressional Review Act and Congress has no legal authority to overturn these waivers,” said Congresswoman Pou. “New Jersey benefits immensely from federal waivers, including to provide better health care coverage to our communities. That said, I am concerned about the pre-emption waiver for the Advanced Clean Cars II rule and its impact on New Jerseyans.
“I came to Congress to address the high cost of living, and that includes the price of automobiles. While clean air is a top priority, and electric vehicles must be a part of the solution to address damaging emissions, I urge Governor Murphy to consider delaying implementation of his executive action. Our state should work with consumers, environmental advocates, auto manufacturers and dealers to understand what is happening in the marketplace, seek common ground, and find a workable path for New Jersey families that balances choice, cost and our environment.”
