Congresswoman Pou Leads Roundtable with New Jersey Jewish Leaders
Joined by former DNC Chair and colleague Debbie Wasserman Schultz
FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ – Congresswoman Nellie Pou (D-NJ-09) joined a roundtable with Jewish leaders from across the district and North Jersey to discuss rising antisemitism, federal efforts to protect Jewish communities from threats, the Middle East, and other issues.
Pou was joined by Bergen County Commissioner Tracy Zur and Pou’s colleague, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL-25), a senior House Democrat and the second longest-serving Jewish woman currently in the chamber.
“I am proud to represent one of the most diverse districts in America. Our large Jewish communities are key segments of our quilt of communities,” said Congresswoman Pou. “With Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz we had an important discussion on federal efforts to counter rising antisemitism in America. Congress has an important role to play to protect our communities, and we must fulfill that responsibility. That’s why I’ve repeatedly called for funding to protect our synagogues and other houses of worship and will work to secure these critical grants for our district. While I have only been in Congress for a few months, I reiterated that my office will always be supportive of our vibrant Jewish communities and neighbors to meet the challenges ahead. I want to also thank the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey and Jason Shames for helping lead this important discussion."
“I truly appreciated hearing from the Jewish community leaders that Congresswoman Pou brought together today, and the experiences they shared reflect so many of the same concerns and aspirations I hear in South Florida,” said Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz. “Enacting strategies to counter rising antisemitism at home and globally, finding a peaceful path forward in the Middle East, as well as protecting our schools, synagogues and houses of worship are all priorities that we will continue to work on together in Washington.”
