Congresswoman Pou Addresses Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Nellie Pou (D-NJ-09) this week addressed the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce during its annual FACES event to unite policymakers and other leaders in support of Puerto Rico’s reconstruction and economic growth.
“Puerto Rico does not lack talent or ambition. What it needs is a reliable federal partner that removes barriers to growth and creates the conditions for businesses to thrive,” said Congresswoman Pou. “That means investing in entrepreneurs, improving access to capital, strengthening manufacturing, and finally delivering the modern energy grid the island deserves. Most importantly, it means recognizing that Puerto Rico is not a charity case. It is an equal member of the American family. The island is not asking for favors. It is asking for the same tools states receive to compete and prosper.”
Congresswoman Pou recently joined a House Homeland Security delegation trip to Puerto Rico to assess the island’s reconstruction work following Hurricanes Maria and Fiona and the 2019-2020 earthquakes, and to engage with officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to discuss the island’s recovery and what federal supports are needed to help Puerto Ricans.
