Secaucus's New Community Center
Dear friend:
This is Congresswoman Nellie Pou writing to you about my recent visit to Secaucus.
I went to Secaucus this week to celebrate the grand opening of the new community center. So many Secaucus residents came out to see the facility on what was a great night for our community.
As you may know, the move to build a new community center came after it was discovered that oil tanks under the old center had been leaking for some time, compromising the building’s foundation.
The new community center is a vastly improved space. It is larger than its predecessor and more accessible to our residents with disabilities. And of course, our seniors will continue to rely on this space. From bingo to meals, it will be a great new gathering place to serve our community.
The new Secaucus Community Center is named for my friend, Mayor Michael Gonnelli. For years, Mayor Gonnelli has been a great leader for Secaucus and so this is a fitting and rightful honor. Our residents present and future will come to this space and see the mayor’s good works – and they won’t forget.
Making this facility happen took a team effort. All levels of our government – local, state, and federal came together to make this new center a reality. I am proud that the new center was built in part with funding through our office. The Ninth Congressional District office secured $950,000 in federal community project funds to help construct the new center.
In February 2023, my predecessor, the late Congressman Bill Pascrell stood at 101 Centre Avenue to present that giant check to help build the new center. I was honored to stand in the new center this week to enjoy the fruits of that support and all of the hard work of our community.
New Jersey today remains the fastest-growing state in our entire region because of hardworking communities that are magnets for talent and families. Communities like Secaucus.

Les escribe la Congresista Nellie Pou para contarles sobre mi reciente visita a Secaucus.
Esta semana estuve en Secaucus para celebrar la gran inauguración del nuevo centro comunitario. Muchísimos residentes se acercaron para conocer las nuevas instalaciones en lo que fue una noche muy especial para nuestra comunidad.
Como quizás sepan, la decisión de construir un nuevo centro comunitario surgió después de descubrirse que unos tanques de petróleo, ubicados bajo el antiguo edificio, habían estado filtrando por un tiempo, afectando los cimientos de la estructura.
El nuevo centro comunitario es un espacio mucho más moderno. Es más grande que el anterior y está mejor adaptado para servir a nuestros residentes con discapacidades. Y, por supuesto, nuestras personas mayores seguirán beneficiándose de este espacio. Desde juegos de bingo hasta comidas comunitarias, será un excelente punto de encuentro para todos.
El nuevo Centro Comunitario de Secaucus lleva el nombre de mi amigo, el Alcalde Michael Gonnelli. Durante años, el alcalde Gonnelli ha sido un gran líder para Secaucus, y por eso este reconocimiento es más que merecido. Las generaciones presentes y futuras visitarán este espacio, verán todo lo que el alcalde ha hecho por la comunidad, y no lo olvidarán.
Hacer realidad este proyecto fue un verdadero esfuerzo en equipo. Todos los niveles de gobierno —local, estatal y federal— trabajaron juntos para lograr la construcción del nuevo centro. Me enorgullece decir que nuestra oficina contribuyó a hacerlo posible. Desde la oficina del Noveno Distrito Congresional conseguimos $950,000 en fondos federales para proyectos comunitarios que ayudaron a financiar la obra.
En febrero de 2023, mi predecesor, el fallecido Congresista Bill Pascrell, estuvo en el 101 de Centre Avenue para entregar ese gran cheque que contribuyó a la construcción del nuevo centro. Esta semana, fue un honor para mí estar en el nuevo edificio y ver cómo ese apoyo y el esfuerzo de toda la comunidad dieron sus frutos.
Hoy en día, Nueva Jersey sigue siendo el estado de más rápido crecimiento en toda nuestra región, gracias a comunidades trabajadoras que atraen talento y familias. Comunidades como Secaucus.
