Release the Epstein Files

This is Congresswoman Nellie Pou writing to you about my vote this week to force the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files.

The Epstein case remains a deeply negative moment for our justice system. For far too long, Epstein was allowed to remain free despite mountains of evidence regarding heinous crimes committed by him and possibly his associates. The failure to prosecute Epstein, and the strange circumstances of his death, have left many Americans deeply distrustful of our justice system.

I do not endorse baseless conspiracy theories. I support transparency, specifically the release of information by our government for all to see. Americans will rightly reject conclusions that are not supported by clear, compelling evidence. This is why transparency is so important. That is why I voted to release the files. As the famous saying goes: Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

That an overwhelming number of House Democrats and Republicans just voted together to demand the release of the Epstein files demonstrates that Americans of all stripes are fed up with the lies and the waiting. Regardless of who will be implicated in the files and what party they belong to, the public has a right to know.

But this is not about politics and is about something bigger than Jeffrey Epstein: protecting our children and young women. This is deeply important to me. For years in the state legislature, I championed measures to crack down on human trafficking and protect children and women from abuse and violence. We cannot lose sight of that.

It should not have come to this, but for months the Trump administration has stonewalled all efforts to expose this case to sunlight. Now, finally, the House has spoken. The White House should listen and make the files, all the files, public without further delay.

Que una abrumadora mayoría de demócratas y republicanos en la Cámara haya votado conjuntamente para exigir la divulgación de los archivos de Epstein demuestra que los estadounidenses de todas las ideologías están cansados de las mentiras y de la espera. Independientemente de quién pueda estar implicado en los archivos o de a qué partido pertenezca, el público tiene derecho a saber.

Pero esto no se trata de política; se trata de algo más grande que Jeffrey Epstein: proteger a nuestros niños y a nuestras jóvenes. Esto es profundamente importante para mí. Durante años en la legislatura estatal, impulsé medidas para combatir la trata de personas y proteger a niños y mujeres del abuso y la violencia. No podemos perder de vista ese objetivo.
