Protecting Our Postal Service

Dear Friend,

There are news reports that the Trump administration is planning to make drastic changes to the United States Postal Service that threaten the future status of your Post Office. 

According to the Washington Post, Donald Trump will issue an executive order firing the entire Postal Board of Governors and then ending the Postal Service as an independent body.

Many people do not know that our Postal Service does not cost Americans taxpayers one dime. For over 50 years, the Postal Service has been an independent body that does not receive regular revenue from the government. So know that any claim that the Post Office is wasting tax dollars is untrue.

If the President tried to unilaterally move the Post Office into the government, this would set the stage for privatizing elements of the Postal Service. Privatization would harm mail service, eliminate jobs, and hurt countless Americans.

I view the Postal Service not as a business that needs to turn a profit but as a vital public service that should always be there when Americans need it. 

For generations, the Post Office has been one of the most beloved parts of American life. Hundreds of millions of Americans rely on it.

I want to make something crystal clear: I will always support the Post Office. And I will oppose any efforts that would harm postal service in America.

Han salido reportes en los medios de que la administración Trump planea hacer cambios drásticos en el Servicio Postal de los Estados Unidos que amenazan el futuro de su oficina postal local.

Según el Washington Post, Donald Trump emitirá una orden ejecutiva para despedir a toda la Junta de Gobernadores del Servicio Postal y luego acabar con su estatus como entidad independiente.

Muchas personas no saben que nuestro Servicio Postal no cuesta ni un centavo a los contribuyentes estadounidenses. Durante más de 50 años, el Servicio Postal ha sido una entidad independiente que no recibe fondos regulares del gobierno. Así que sepan que cualquier afirmación que diga que el Servicio Postal está desperdiciando dinero público no es cierta.

Si el presidente intentara unilateralmente incorporar el Servicio Postal al gobierno, esto sentaría las bases para privatizar partes del Servicio Postal. La privatización perjudicaría el servicio postal, eliminaría empleos y afectaría a millones de estadounidenses.

Yo veo al Servicio Postal no como un negocio que debe generar ganancias, sino como un servicio público vital que siempre debe estar disponible cuando los estadounidenses lo necesiten.

Por generaciones, el Servicio Postal ha sido una de las instituciones más queridas en la vida estadounidense. Cientos de millones de personas dependen de él.

Quiero dejar algo muy claro: siempre apoyaré al Servicio Postal. Y me opondré a cualquier intento que pueda dañar el servicio postal en Estados Unidos.
