My Recent Town Hall Event
Dear Friend,
A few days ago I was very happy to hold our office’s first town hall event with members of our district.
A total of over 13,000 residents in our district were able to join the telephone town hall. Men and women from our 35 cities and towns connected from home, coming back from work, and one gentleman I spoke with even called in while riding the bus!
These last few months have been challenging. Listening to our community members, I heard a lot of frustration, anxiety and even fear in our communities. The daily chaos in America is unsettling. Our town hall was about hearing from you about what is going on and what is on your mind.
We covered a wide range of topics including fixing mass transit, fighting high prices, preserving Social Security and Medicare, labor rights and protections, and a host of other areas.
I was able to highlight some of my highest priorities. I support stabilizing prices by stopping price gouging and fighting corporate greed. I will always fight to preserve Medicare and Social Security. I want to lower housing costs. And I back strong funding for public safety.
I know that you all have busy days and I truly appreciate the opportunity of welcoming me into your lives to have a conversation with you. Hace unos días, me dio mucha alegría llevar a cabo nuestro primer foro comunitario telefónico con los residentes de nuestro distrito.
Un total de más de 13,000 personas pudieron participar en este foro. Hombres y mujeres de nuestras 35 ciudades y pueblos se conectaron desde sus hogares, regresando del trabajo, ¡e incluso un caballero con quien hablé llamó mientras viajaba en autobús!
Los últimos meses han sido difíciles. Al escuchar a los miembros de nuestra comunidad, percibí mucha frustración, ansiedad e incluso temor. El caos diario que vivimos en Estados Unidos es preocupante. Este foro fue una oportunidad para escucharlos: saber lo que están viviendo y lo que tienen en mente.
Hablamos sobre muchos temas importantes, incluyendo la mejora del transporte público, la lucha contra los precios altos, la protección del Seguro Social y Medicare, los derechos laborales y muchas otras áreas clave.
Tuve la oportunidad de destacar algunas de mis prioridades más importantes. Apoyo estabilizar los precios combatiendo el abuso en los precios y la codicia corporativa. Siempre lucharé por proteger Medicare y el Seguro Social. Quiero reducir los costos de la vivienda. Y respaldo una financiación sólida para la seguridad pública.
