Know a 17-Year-Old? They May Be Eligible to Vote
Dear Friend,
Did you know that some 17-year-olds can vote in New Jersey’s upcoming primary election on Tuesday, June 2nd?
Under a state law enacted in 2024, a 17-year-old young man or woman may vote in a primary election if they turn 18 on or before the general election this November 3rd. That means many high school seniors, as well as some juniors, are eligible to take part in the spring 2026 primary process for the very first time in their lives.
Since my office does not have email addresses for most 17-year-olds in our district, we are asking you – parents, grandparents, guardians, and family members, to help spread the word.
If you know someone who is 17 now and will have their 18th birthday by Election Day on November 3, 2026, please encourage them to register to vote. Once registered, they can participate in the June 2nd primary.
Registering is simple. Eligible teens can register online, by mail, or in person at their county election office. The registration deadline for the primary election is Tuesday, May 12th - so do not wait!

Voting is one of the most important ways we take part in our democracy. For many young people, casting a first ballot is a meaningful milestone, and an opportunity to build lifelong civic habits. Allowing 17 year-olds to vote was something I supported when I was in the state legislature and I was proud to help make it law.
This change in the law is designed to help young voters get engaged early and have their voices heard. But it only works if families know about it.
Please take a moment to talk with the young people in your life about registering and voting this year. If you need more information about eligibility or how to register, our office is happy to help point you in the right direction.
Let’s make sure every eligible young voter is ready to vote on June 2nd.
