I Will Not Accept Pay During a Government Shutdown

This is Congresswoman Nellie Pou writing to you about the current federal government shutdown.

Our country remains rightfully upset by what is happening in Washington. Americans continue to be hammered by a high cost of living.

Because so many Americans will be hurt, I will not accept any pay during a government shutdown and I have instructed the Chief Administrative Officer of the House of Representatives not to give me any pay if a shutdown occurs.

I stand ready to support a bill that protects Americans’ health care from skyrocketing costs. With Republicans in control of the House, the Senate, and the White House, any legislation that is ultimately passed into law will come from their side. But I will not support any government funding bill that will raise your health care costs. And I will not accept any pay until the government reopens.

Nuestro país está justamente indignado por lo que ocurre en Washington, especialmente en un momento en que los estadounidenses enfrentan un costo de vida muy elevado.

Debido a que tantas personas están siendo perjudicadas, no aceptaré ningún pago durante un cierre del gobierno federal y he instruido a la Oficina Administrativa de la Cámara de Representantes a no emitir ningún pago para mí mientras dure el cierre.

Estoy lista para apoyar una ley que proteja la atención médica de los estadounidenses frente a aumentos desmedidos. Con los republicanos controlando la Cámara, el Senado y la Casa Blanca, cualquier legislación aprobada será impulsada por ellos.
