Congresswoman Pou Announces $6 Million for Bergen Water Projects

This is Congresswoman Nellie Pou writing to share some positive news for Bergen residents.
My office has helped secure $6,170,297 in federal FEMA funding for Bergen County to support flood mitigation, wastewater repairs, and infrastructure damage tied to Superstorm Sandy. This money will go directly to the Bergen County Utilities Authority to help complete long-needed repairs and strengthen systems that protect public health and safety.
Many of us remember the destruction Sandy caused: the flooded homes, wrecked infrastructure, and years of recovery. While the storm itself has long passed, its impacts are still being addressed today. Projects like these show how long rebuilding can take, and why sustained federal investment is so important.
Strong water and wastewater infrastructure is not optional in a region like North Jersey. When systems fail, the consequences are immediate and severe in the form of flooded streets and environmental damage. This FEMA funding helps ensure Bergen County can continue repairing and modernizing infrastructure that protects residents now and into the future.
As a member of the House Subcommittee on Water Resources, I’ve made flood control and water infrastructure a top priority. My goal is to make sure communities like ours receive every nickel of federal support we need to take on projects that are too large and too costly for local governments to manage alone. The burden must be shared.
I’m proud to announce this funding and will continue working to bring resources back to Bergen County to protect families from future storms.

Como miembro del Subcomité de Recursos Hídricos de la Cámara de Representantes, he hecho del control de inundaciones y la infraestructura hídrica una prioridad.
