Congratulating South Korea

Dear Friend: 

A new President will now lead South Korea. As your member of Congress, I hope President Lee Jae-myung will now strengthen the important relationship between the United States and South Korea.

South Korea is one of the most vibrant democracies in the world and among America’s most vital partners. I will explore all opportunities in office to work with our Korean community and South Korea's government. I look forward to Mr. Lee’s tenure solidifying the ties between the United States and South Korea even further.

The challenges in front of us are immense. Our two nations must continue to work together to counter the Chinese Communist Party’s growing authoritarianism. We must together contain the continuing threat posed by North Korea. Finally, our economic relationship should keep expanding to the benefit of both countries. 

Northern New Jersey is home to one of the largest Korean American communities in the entire United States. This includes communities within our own district like Cliffside Park, Edgewater, and Ridgefield. Our neighbors add immeasurably to our state economy and culture. Without question, Koreans are a critical segment of our American quilt of communities. 

Like our Korean neighbors, I want peace and liberty on the Korean peninsula. I hope and pray Mr. Lee’s presidency helps us reach those goals.

새로운 대통령님께서 이제 대한민국을 이끌게 되었습니다. 저는 여러분의 국회의원으로서, 이재명 대통령님께서 한미 간의 소중한 관계를 더욱 굳건히 해주시길 바랍니다.

대한민국은 세계에서 가장 활기찬 민주주의 국가 중 하나이며, 미국에게 가장 중요한 동맹국 중 하나입니다. 저는 임기 동안 우리 한인 사회와 대한민국 정부와 협력할 모든 기회를 모색하겠습니다. 이재명 대통령님의 임기가 한미 관계를 한층 더 견고히 하는 시간이 되길 기대합니다.

앞에 놓인 도전은 매우 큽니다. 두 나라는 함께 중국 공산당의 커져가는 권위주의에 맞서야 합니다. 또한 북한이 계속해서 제기하는 위협을 함께 억제해야 합니다. 마지막으로, 양국 간 경제 협력도 서로에게 이익이 되도록 계속 확대되어야 합니다.

북부 뉴저지는 미국 전역에서 가장 큰 한인 커뮤니티 중 하나가 자리 잡고 있습니다. 우리 지역구 내의 클리프사이드 파크, 엣지워터, 리지필드와 같은 지역도 포함됩니다. 우리 한인 이웃들은 우리 주의 경제와 문화에 매우 큰 기여를 하고 있습니다. 한인 커뮤니티는 미국 사회를 이루는 중요한 한 축임에 틀림없습니다.

저 역시 한반도의 평화와 자유를 간절히 바랍니다. 이재명 대통령님의 대통령직이 그 목표를 이루는 데 도움이 되길 희망하며 기도합니다.
