Congresswoman Pou Visits Community Health Center to Highlight Impacts of Republican Shutdown
PATERSON, NJ – Congresswoman Nellie Pou (D-NJ–09) today visited the Paterson Community Health Center continuing her tour of sites and institutions being negatively impacted by the ongoing Republican shutdown of the federal government.
“After meeting with health center staff, it is clear this shutdown is already impacting doctors and patients. Like health facilities across America, Paterson Community Health members are worried about the ongoing government shutdown. I hear them and share their concerns,” said Congresswoman Pou. “The current Republican funding bill would cause millions of Americans to lose their health care or have to pay skyrocketing premiums. Americans are being squeezed like never before. They cannot afford to pay more for their health care and should not have to. I will do everything in my power to protect our residents’ health care, to lower the cost of living, and to continue supporting centers like Paterson Community Health Center that protect our most vulnerable neighbors.”
Between the Republican budget bill cuts to Medicaid and the expiration of ACA tax credits, 14.2 million people nationwide and 390,000 New Jerseyans are expected to become uninsured without action by Congress.
