Honoring Congressman Bill Pascrell
Dear Friend:
This past week the House passed legislation I cosponsored to rename parts of the Paterson Great Falls National Historic Park for the late Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr.
Congressman Pascrell was known throughout our state for his closely-held convictions. He spoke up and spoke out for what he believed in and he never backed down from a fight.
Bill fought relentlessly to have the Great Falls designated as a National Historical Park. When it was signed into law in 2009, it was a proud day for our city and our state. This designation unlocked a flood of new rehabilitation and expansion projects that have transformed the Great Falls Historic District into a hub for tourism and recreation.
In addition, the expansion of the park’s boundaries encompassed historic Hinchliffe Stadium, one of America’s few remaining Negro League stadiums still in existence. Thanks in part to the Congressman’s work, Hinchliffe is hosting more events and returning to its former glory.
Under our legislation, popular parts of the Great Falls will now be named the Bill Pascrell, Jr. Scenic Overlook Trail Bridge and the Bill Pascrell, Jr. Overlook Park. I was honored to help pass this bill in the House and will keep pushing until it is signed into law.
Few public servants have shaped our community or New Jersey more than Bill Pascrell. He understood the importance of honoring our past while fighting for our future. Every brick and every drop of the Great Falls tells a story about Paterson and America, and now those stories will include Bill Pascrell.

Esta semana, la Cámara de Representantes aprobó una legislación que tuve el honor de copatrocinar, la cual busca renombrar partes del Parque Histórico Nacional de las Grandes Cataratas de Paterson en honor al difunto congresista Bill Pascrell, Jr.
El congresista Pascrell fue reconocido en todo nuestro estado por sus convicciones firmemente arraigadas. Siempre habló en defensa de lo que creía y nunca se echó atrás en una lucha.
Bill luchó incansablemente para lograr que las Grandes Cataratas fueran designadas como un Parque Histórico Nacional. Cuando la ley fue firmada en 2009, fue un día de orgullo para nuestra ciudad y nuestro estado. Esta designación abrió la puerta a una serie de nuevos proyectos de rehabilitación y expansión que han transformado el Distrito Histórico de las Grandes Cataratas en un centro de turismo y recreación.
Además, la expansión de los límites del parque incluyó el histórico Estadio Hinchliffe, uno de los pocos estadios restantes de la Liga Negra de Béisbol en los Estados Unidos que todavía existe. Gracias en parte al trabajo del congresista, Hinchliffe está siendo sede de más eventos y está recuperando su antigua gloria.
Según nuestra legislación, las áreas más visitadas de las Grandes Cataratas serán renombradas como el Puente del Sendero Panorámico Bill Pascrell, Jr. y el Parque Mirador Bill Pascrell, Jr. Fue un honor ayudar a aprobar este proyecto de ley en la Cámara de Representantes y seguiré luchando hasta que sea firmado en ley.
Pocos servidores públicos han influido tanto en nuestra comunidad o en Nueva Jersey como lo hizo Bill Pascrell. Él comprendió la importancia de honrar nuestro pasado mientras luchaba por nuestro futuro.
